Lotus Notes 8.5 Public Beta on Ubuntu Hardy

I love Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino. Even if it's not free and open source software, it's a highly integrated groupware without comparable software solutions on the market.

With Lotus Notes 8.5, IBM offers -for the first time ever- Debian installation packages. According to IBM, Ubuntu will be fully supported for the release of 8.5.

Thanks to the new DEB-packages, installation is really easy. Right now, there are some minor issues with fonts selection.

1) Register an IBM ID.

2) Download the installation packages archive.

Install all packages:

tar xf notes85_notes_linux_deb_prod.tar
cd notes85_notes_linux_deb_prod
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

After you've successfully installed Lotus Notes, check out OpenNTF, which is a great source for some really useful FOSS Lotus Notes databases.

The availability of Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino is a substantial progress for the Ubuntu Project. There are thousands of business applications available for Lotus Notes. This eases migration from Microsoft Windows and offers a great value to Linux on the desktop.

I'm still missing the Lotus Notes Designer. Keep on working IBM!

Also a lot of my e-mails do not display when I open them, all I get is a black box in the area where the e-mail should be. Do you have any info on this, any help would be great.

Thanks Markus. I wouldn't have knew that there are Deb packages for this. I was had a hard time installing the "IBM_Lotus_Symphony_Linux.bin." Now it's so easy and had it installed already on my notebook. Lucky me that I'm not running on a 64 bit.

Now I can say proudly "no windows in my life"
Lotus Notes has glued me with windows before, hopefully Lotus Notes 8.5 will be free software even on next final/stable release edition or at least for Linux
Thank you so much...

Lotus Notes 8 BETA for linux

Lotus Notes 8 BETA for linux :

Does anyone have Lotus Notes 8 BETA for linux ? Its no longer on IBM site and I've accidentally deleted my download.

I had been using LN 8 beta on linux for 2-3 years and now suddenly i have to boot to windows in office as we use lotus for mails. The 8.5 evaluation is time limited to only 60 days so I can't use that.

If someone has the beta RPMs i would really really appreciate if you could upload and give the link to me.
Thanks in Advance.
